‘Dreams Awake Star’ Erin Gray to Co-produce Texas-set Metaphysical Drama
AUSTIN, Texas — Way To Go Media, the independent company behind the award-winning feature film Dreams Awake, is launching an innovative campaign to finance its next project, One Hand Clapping: its own crowd-sourced funding site, LaunchOurFilm.com. In exchange for donating to the production, set to film in 2014 in Central Texas, supporters will have opportunities to participate creatively in this Texas-set tale of life, death and rebirth. Donor incentives range from prerelease digital copies and all-day set visits to credit thank-yous, premiere tickets, private screenings and profit-sharing.
Producer/director/screenwriter Jerry Alden Deal and co-producer Erin Gray, who received two Best Actress awards for Dreams Awake (winner of 17 awards altogether), have created a mini-documentary explaining why the emerging transformational-storytelling genre holds appeal and why they’re inviting film fans to join the project.
“We want you to go on the journey with us, to be part of the filmmaking process,” says San Antonio native Deal, a University of Texas graduate. “… All you have to do is bring your inner child with you and play with us.”
The clip may be viewed on the LaunchOurFilm.com site — established, Deal says, to allow principals, including Austin-based executive producer Eric Williams, to interact directly with stakeholders and avoid fees associated with other fundraising sites.
Gray, known for her roles in the TV series Buck Rogers in the 25th Century and Silver Spoons, says she’s intrigued by the themes Way To Go Media explores because they reflect her own quest to understand the human condition.
“Reincarnation, other dimensions, transformational consciousness-raising, bringing awareness to our lives; these topics are what fascinate and interest me,” says the actress, a tai chi instructor, motivational speaker and founder of the celebrity-booking agency Heroes for Hire.
A trailer for One Hand Clapping, filmed in 2012 in the Central Texas communities of Elgin, Lockhart and Bastrop with an all-local cast and crew, follows the Zen riddle, “What is the sound of one hand clapping?” with the summarizing tagline, “Three brothers, two deaths, one rebirth … reincarnation in a small Texas town.”
Deal explains, “Once hand clapping, in reference to this film, means, is there more of an intuitive, spiritual answer to our existence than just … we’re born, we live life and we die and that’s it?”
We may not ever get a definitive answer, but One Hand Clapping is certain to fulfill Way To Go Media’s mission of providing “cinema to inspire, enlighten and uplift.”
